Treatment of soft tissue:

Recession of the gums also results in bone loss. The bone covering the root of the tooth is so thin that as recession progresses, the bone supporting the tooth is also lost. Over time, this will cause the tooth to become more mobile and could eventually cause it to be lost.

A root canal is a treatment used to repair and save a tooth that's badly decayed or becomes infected. During a root canal procedure, the canals are cleaned from the necrosed tissue and sealed. Without treatment the tissue surrounding the tooth will become infected and abscesses may form.
